Biographie :
Fabrice Guerrier, photographe autodidacte vivant et travaillant à Berlin, a emprunté différents chemins avant de se consacrer à la photographie. Né à Thiais (région parisienne) en 1977, il grandit à Nice, étudie l’électrotechnique avant de créer sa propre entreprise dans le secteur de la logistique. Des années plus tard, il décide de tout quitter pour partir vivre à Nouakchott, en Mauritanie.
C’est cette expérience qui l’incite à renouer avec la photographie argentique, à laquelle il avait été initié par son père pendant l’adolescence.

On ne peut décrire les photographies de Fabrice Guerrier sans évoquer l’importance de leur support, le film argentique, lui permettant de maîtriser l’entier processus de naissance de ses images, de la prise de vue au développement puis au tirage dans la chambre noire.
S’il aime photographier « les objets qui [l’] entourent », immeubles de Berlin, commerces de son quartier (Kreuzberg), sa famille dans la forêt etc., ce dernier ne le fait pas au hasard. Les motifs choisis, immeubles superposés, sol bitumineux de Tempelhof dessinant des motifs abstraits, s’ils le sont pour leur graphisme, le sont aussi pour la réflexion qu’ils engendrent, à l’image d’une série de photomatons : «un symbole de l’argentique : je photographie un photographe automate ». Les techniques qu’il aime expérimenter, notamment les surimpressions de plusieurs images. Ce goût pour l’expérimentation photographique s’inscrit pleinement dans sa démarche artistique et philosophique : interroger la nature de la photographie.

Fabrice Guerrier is an autodidact as photographer and lives and works in Berlin. He was born 1977 in Thiais (Paris) and grew up in Nice. He studied electrical engineering and then founded a logistic company. He left his home country France a few years later for Nouakchott in Mauritania. Life in West Africa brought him back to the analogue photography, which his father taught him as a boy.

Fabrice Guerrier`s photographs need to be described in the context of the whole genesis of a photography: The film reel enables Fabrice Guerrier to influence the complete process from the initial exposure to the development in the dark room. The selected subjects or scenes show daily situations (e.g. buildings or small shops in Kreuzberg or a family walk). The selection of the scene is not due to coincidence, the pictures contains also abstract elements. Either from the optical content (e.g. abstract items on the asphalt of the Airport Tempelhof) or through the intrinsic sense or meaning (e.g. the photo booth as the symbol for analogue photography, here the photographer snaps the photo booth) Fabrice Guerrier`s experimental joy and energy you find also in the here shown double exposures. This is a symbol for his double approach in art and philosophy: to question the essential substance of photography.

Fabrice Guerrier ist als Fotograf Autodidakt und lebt und arbeitet in Berlin. 1977 in Thiais (Großraum Paris) geboren, wächst er später in Nizza auf. Dort studiert er Elektrotechnik und gründet anschließend sein eigenes Unternehmen im Logistikbereich. Jahre später lässt er seine französische Heimat hinter sich und zieht nach Nouakchott in Mauretanien. Das Leben in Afrika bringt ihn zurück zur analogen Fotographie, die ihm sein Vater in seiner Jugend beigebracht hatte.
Werk :
Die Beschreibung der Fotographien von Fabrice Guerrier muss im Gesamtkontext ihres Entstehungsprozesses geschehen: Es ist die Filmrolle, die es FG ermöglicht, den kompletten Prozess von der Aufnahme bis zur Entwicklung in der Dunkelkammer zu beeinflussen. Die gewählten Motive spiegeln alltägliche Situationen wider (Gebäude und kleine Geschäfte in Kreuzberg, Familienausflug etc.), ihre Entstehung ist jedoch nicht dem Zufall geschuldet. Immer enthalten die Bildausschnitte auch abstrakte Elemente, sei es durch ihren graphischen Inhalt (abstrakte Motive auf dem Asphalt des Tempelhofer Flughafens) oder durch den ihnen innewohnenden Sinn (das Photomaton als Symbol der analogen Fotographie: der Automat wird vom Fotographen abgelichtet).
Darüber hinaus zeigt sich Guerriers Experimentierfreudigkeit auch in den hier gezeigten Doppelbelichtungen und steht wiederum sinnbildlich für seine künstlerische und philosophische Herangehensweise: das Wesen der Fotographie in Frage stellen.
